Gabriel Basso made things awkward on Live with Kelly and Mark when he suddenly announced that he dislikes physical contact with Kelly, causing an uncomfortable moment.

Gabriel Basso’s recent TV appearances have provided a mix of humor and candid moments, especially his appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark on January 16, 2025.

While promoting the upcoming season of Netflix’s The Night Agent, Basso, 30,

found himself in a lighthearted and slightly awkward situation involving host Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos.

The Handshake That Led to a Hug

Basso’s appearance on the morning talk show started with a funny moment that had the audience laughing.

As he walked onto the set, Basso initially extended his hand to Kelly Ripa for a handshake, which led to a moment of playful hesitation.

Ripa, 54, who had her arms open for a hug, quickly adjusted and reached out to shake Basso’s hand instead. She jokingly asked, “Is that OK? Was that weird?”

Basso, trying to avoid any awkwardness in front of Consuelos, responded, “No, I just… you’re married, I just wanted to give you a handshake,” prompting laughter from the audience and Mark Consuelos, 53. Ripa, ever the quick-witted host, responded with a bit of humor, saying, “Well, Mark was going to hug you first, but I wanted to make him feel less weird about it.” Basso humorously admitted that he missed Consuelos’ hug, and the moment was quickly smoothed over before the interview began.

This lighthearted exchange came as Basso prepared to talk about the second season of The Night Agent, which is set to debut on Netflix on January 23, 2025.

A “Ma’am” Moment on Good Morning America

Basso’s amusing TV gaffes didn’t stop there. During a separate appearance on Good Morning America earlier in the week, the actor caught the attention of host Lara Spencer when he referred to her as “ma’am.” Spencer, playfully taken aback by the formal address, quipped, “Oh, don’t call me ma’am!” The interaction drew a laugh, but it was clear Basso was just being polite, even if his choice of words added an unintentional comedic twist.

A Rising Star in Hollywood

Gabriel Basso is no stranger to the spotlight, though his recent rise in popularity is largely attributed to his role in The Night Agent. Over the past two years, Basso’s portrayal of Peter Sutherland in the Netflix thriller has made him a fan favorite. However, his acting career extends beyond this hit series. Basso has appeared in films such as Super 8, The Kings of Summer, and Hillbilly Elegy, where he played JD Vance in Ron Howard’s adaptation of the memoir.

In addition to his work on The Night Agent, Basso recently worked with Clint Eastwood on the director’s film Juror #2. In a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Basso shared a humorous moment from the set of Juror #2. Fallon showed a photo of Basso and Eastwood, 94, on set and asked the young actor what their conversation had been about. Basso, in his typical self-deprecating style, admitted, “I think he called me an idiot.”

When asked how he responded to the legendary filmmaker, Basso explained that he didn’t feel he could really offer much in the way of advice or criticism. “What do you say to Clint Eastwood? He’s seen it. He’s done it. He’s been everywhere… You are not as cool as he is. So, you just kind of sit there and you’re like, yeah, you know, whatever you say, boss…I’m an idiot.”

Basso’s Favorite Eastwood Moment

Despite the playful teasing, Basso shared that his most memorable interaction with Clint Eastwood was when the icon left his trailer munching on Cheez-Its. According to Basso, when a young woman passed by, Eastwood offered her the snack, and it worked like a charm. “And it was like, what the hell is going on? And it worked!” Basso laughed, recounting the unexpected moment with fondness.

These humorous anecdotes showcase Basso’s easygoing and likable personality, something that has contributed to his growing fan base. As his career continues to gain momentum, Basso is sure to charm audiences not only with his acting talents but also with his lighthearted approach to navigating the world of fame.

As The Night Agent season 2 debuts in just a few days, it’s clear that Gabriel Basso is more than just a rising star — he’s someone who can make an impression both on and off the screen. Whether it’s avoiding awkward moments on live TV or laughing about his encounters with Hollywood legends, Basso is proving himself to be a talented and charismatic force to be reckoned with.
