BBC Breakfast’s Simon King was criticized for being “careless” after being seen using his phone mid-sentence on live TV: He clearly disrespected the audience…

Simon King, the beloved meteorologist for BBC Breakfast, had an awkward moment on February 15, 2025,

when a loud phone alarm unexpectedly interrupted his live weather update, leaving the star red-faced and viewers amused.

The slip-up occurred during the morning broadcast when Simon was updating the audience on the latest weather developments,

as hosts Naga Munchetty and Ben Thompson handed over to him for the forecast.

As Simon began his report, everything seemed business as usual until suddenly, the unmistakable sound of a phone alarm started blaring loudly from his pocket.

The unexpected interruption took everyone by surprise, causing a moment of confusion on set.

Simon, always quick on his feet, didn’t miss a beat and calmly explained the situation, admitting with a chuckle: “That’s my alarm telling me that I’ve got to go on Radio Four very, very shortly.”

Rather than allowing the mishap to derail the broadcast, Simon continued with his forecast as if nothing had happened, maintaining his professionalism. However, the moment certainly caught the attention of the BBC Breakfast crew, who couldn’t contain their laughter. The unexpected alarm became an instant source of amusement, with Naga Munchetty remarking playfully: “So, shall we do two, three minutes of chat now?”

Simon, aware of the urgency, responded humorously, “Well, if we do, I’ll be running up the stairs, and people will think I’ve had a heart attack.” Ben Thompson, never one to miss an opportunity for a witty comment, added, “Well, we know you’re a busy man, Simon, but you know…” His light-hearted remark only added to the fun atmosphere in the studio.

Realizing he was running out of time for his scheduled interview, Simon quickly wrapped up his segment, exclaiming, “I’ve got to go, sorry!” before hastily rushing off camera. His sudden departure added to the comedy of the situation, and Naga couldn’t help but remark on how “funny” the entire interaction had been. Ben, with a smile, chimed in, acknowledging Simon’s swift exit with, “He’s off,” as they resumed hosting their duties on the show.

Though Simon’s phone alarm caused an unplanned interruption, his ability to stay calm and continue the forecast with ease was a testament to his professionalism. It’s clear that his years of experience at the BBC Breakfast helm haven’t dulled his composure, even in moments of unexpected chaos. Simon’s ability to laugh off the mishap and maintain his role as a meteorologist while navigating through live television is just another example of why viewers enjoy watching him on the show.

A well-established presence on BBC Breakfast, Simon joined the Met Office back in 2005 as a forecaster in the Mobile Met Unit, a specialized group of forecasters who serve as sponsored reserve officers in the Royal Air Force. Simon’s career took him to new heights when he was posted as a Flying Officer to RAF Benson, and he also spent time working in Iraq on operations. His extensive experience in meteorology and his background with the RAF have made him a trusted and respected figure in the field.

Despite the minor hiccup on Saturday, Simon’s calm and humorous handling of the situation shows why he’s a fan favorite. His willingness to embrace the awkwardness of the moment and turn it into a lighthearted exchange with Naga and Ben only added to his charm. As the BBC Breakfast team continued their broadcast, it was clear that Simon’s professionalism, even in the face of a small blunder, made the moment all the more memorable for viewers.
