Robin Roberts left GMA viewers stunned after hinting she MIGHT LEAVE following a HUMILIATING experience. What unfolded?

Long before Robin Roberts became a household name as an anchor on Good Morning America, she held an unexpected role that many of her fans might find surprising.

In a recent video series for ABC, where GMA anchors reminisced about their very first jobs, Robin revealed that she once served as a school bus driver during her high school years.

The celebrated journalist, now 63, shared the amusing and somewhat astonishing story of how she ended up behind the wheel, transporting her fellow classmates to school.

“I turned 18 my senior year,” she recalled, “and the tennis coach said we needed a driver

because we were always having to cancel our matches since we didn’t have one. So, I became the driver.”

Growing up in Pass Christian, a small town on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Robin found herself in a unique position due to the limited resources of her school district.

Her role as a bus driver extended beyond just getting her tennis team to matches. When a regular school bus driver called in sick, Robin would step in as a substitute. “Can you imagine pulling up, opening the school bus door, and seeing your classmate sitting behind the wheel?” she joked. “Priceless!”

Robin’s roots in Pass Christian, a town with a population of just over 5,700 as of 2020, helped shape the work ethic and resilience that have defined her career. While many might have been nervous about such a responsibility at a young age, Robin embraced the challenge, a trait that has served her well throughout her journey from local news to becoming one of the most recognized faces on morning television.

GMA Anchors Share Their First Jobs

Robin wasn’t the only GMA anchor to reveal an interesting first job. Michael Strahan, now a co-anchor on the show, got his start mowing lawns as a teenager. George Stephanopoulos earned his first paycheck working as a golf caddy, while Ginger Zee took on the role of bussing tables at weddings. Meanwhile, Lara Spencer made her first earnings shoveling snow for neighbors in Long Island—a job she proudly claimed to be “very good” at.

Each of these early work experiences offers a glimpse into the determination and drive that helped propel these well-known figures into their successful careers in television and journalism.

Robin’s Ongoing Success and Recent Adventures

Robin Roberts has been a staple of Good Morning America for nearly two decades, with 2025 marking her 20th anniversary on the show. Throughout the years, she has become a beloved and trusted figure in American journalism, known for her warm personality, insightful interviews, and perseverance through personal and professional challenges.

Recently, Robin took a well-deserved break from her busy schedule for a memorable trip to London. On August 18, she was notably absent from GMA as she jetted across the Atlantic to attend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium. She documented her excitement on social media, sharing a selfie with her wife, Amber Laign, captioned: “Headed to Wembley!”

Robin fully embraced the Eras Tour experience, even making a collection of friendship bracelets in the weeks leading up to the concert. On the night of the show, she sported a dazzling blue tracksuit in honor of Swift’s Midnights album era, proving she’s just as much a Swiftie as the thousands of fans who packed the stadium.

The Eras Tour Phenomenon

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has been one of the most talked-about music events in recent history. Since its kickoff on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, the tour has spanned continents, including North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Robin was lucky enough to attend one of Swift’s record-breaking London shows, where the pop icon made history as the first solo artist to perform eight nights at Wembley on the same tour.

The Eras Tour is currently on a two-month hiatus before returning for its final leg, with stops in three U.S. cities and two Canadian cities. The tour will conclude in Vancouver in December 2024, marking the end of an extraordinary run.

From Bus Driver to Broadcast Star

Robin Roberts’ journey from driving a school bus in Mississippi to anchoring one of America’s most-watched morning shows is nothing short of inspiring. Her early job may have been an unexpected start, but it was just one of many steps that led to her remarkable career in journalism. With nearly 20 years on GMA and a fan base that continues to grow, Robin remains a shining example of hard work, perseverance, and embracing every opportunity life presents.
