Denise Welch has never shied away from sharing the highs and hilarious moments of her marriage to Lincoln Townley. 

The Loose Women panellist and her husband have been happily married since 2013, defying skeptics who questioned their 14-year age gap. 

Over a decade later, the couple remains stronger than ever, thanks to their shared love of laughter and adventure.

Recently, they showcased their dynamic bond on Celebrity Hunted, 

a Channel 4 reality series where famous faces go on the run while being pursued by former law enforcement officers. 

Denise and Lincoln, the only married duo in the lineup, proved they were up for the challenge, bringing plenty of humor and heart along the way.

Laughter: The Secret to Their Strong Marriage

Denise credits laughter as a key ingredient in her relationship with Lincoln. The couple has built a life together that balances hard work with plenty of fun, something Denise once thought was impossible to find in a romantic partner.

“We do have a good laugh,” she said. “The thing with us is that we take our business very seriously, but we don’t take ourselves seriously.”

She added that she always believed she wouldn’t find someone who could match her sense of humor the way her closest friends do. But Lincoln proved her wrong.

“I always thought there wouldn’t be one person that I fancy and be able to laugh with like I laugh with my girlfriends or my gay best friends. But I managed to find that in Lincoln,” she said.

Their connection is so strong that sometimes a single glance is enough to send them into fits of laughter. “It’s that thing where something can happen and we can be at opposite ends of the room, but just one look and you are both laughing because you know what the other one is thinking.”

Their ability to find joy in even the most stressful moments played a huge role in their success on Celebrity Hunted. Denise admitted that she wouldn’t have wanted to take on the challenge with anyone else. “I think laughter is very much a part of the success of our marriage, and the very fact that I didn’t want to do Celebrity Hunted with anybody but my husband says it all.”

Lincoln’s Dance Moves Nearly Ruined Their Romance

Despite their deep love and shared sense of humor, Denise jokingly revealed that one thing about Lincoln almost derailed their romance before it even started—his dancing skills, or lack thereof.

“Oh my God, Lincoln is the worst dancer!” she laughed. “He is not a natural mover. If I’d danced with him before I had sex with him, it wouldn’t have got that far!”

Although Lincoln isn’t the most graceful on the dance floor, he doesn’t let that stop him. Denise admitted that she encourages him to keep dancing, even if it’s just for laughs.

Lincoln, however, was quick to remind her that they had participated in ITV’s Stepping Out in 2013, a show where celebrity couples competed in dance challenges. “Remember, we have done a dancing show together, so it reflects in my life as I travel forward!” he quipped.

Facing the Celebrity Hunted Challenge Together

Denise and Lincoln’s appearance on Celebrity Hunted was a true test of teamwork and resilience. The challenge forced them out of their comfort zone, as they had to survive with only £200 and no access to bank cards. Throughout the experience, they relied on the kindness of strangers to keep moving and avoid capture.

While the show’s intense nature might have put a strain on some couples, Denise believes it only made their bond stronger. “It’s reaffirmed our relationship,” she said, reflecting on the experience.

The couple brought their signature humor to the show, with Lincoln even donning a swimsuit to strut across a beach just to lighten the mood after a close call. He also put on a dance show in a hotel shower, which, despite his questionable moves, at least kept things entertaining.

Denise admitted that her competitive streak kicked in early in the game. “The competitiveness did come on pretty strong from Den pretty quickly!” Lincoln revealed.

But he had nothing but praise for his wife, describing her as a powerhouse throughout the competition. “Den was amazing. I mean, she was literally charging ahead, and every morning it was like, ‘Right. Let’s go!’ We knew we had to deliver, and she really did.”

Faith in Humanity Restored

One of the most profound takeaways from their Celebrity Hunted experience was Denise’s realization about the kindness of everyday people. She admitted that, in a world where negative headlines dominate the news cycle, the generosity they encountered on the show restored her faith in humanity.

“This show really did restore my faith in humanity,” she shared. “If you spend your life looking at the news, which sadly I do too much, you think of the world as a big, horrible place. I know that it is in many parts, but on a day-to-day basis, most people in the general public are lovely.”

She also acknowledged the contrast between online negativity and real-life kindness. “If I look at Twitter sometimes, I think, oh my God, this person doesn’t like me, and that person doesn’t like me. But every single person we met had only lovely things to say. So it really did restore my faith in the public.”
