Kieran Culkin made headlines at the 2025 Academy Awards, not only for winning Best Supporting Actor but also for his heartfelt—and slightly mischievous—acceptance speech. 

The Succession star, recognized for his performance in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, 

took the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and used his moment in the spotlight to remind his wife, Jazz Charton, of a past promise regarding expanding their family.

A Playful Yet Heartfelt Speech

Before stepping up to the microphone, Culkin shared a kiss with Charton, setting the tone for what was to come. 

He then began his speech with a warm tribute to his wife, thanking her for being his rock and for giving him 

“his favorite people in the world”—their two children, Kinsey Sioux and Wilder Wolf.

Midway through his speech, the actor made a plea to his wife, recounting a private agreement they had made a year earlier. He explained that after winning an Emmy for Succession in 2024, he had publicly expressed his desire for a third child. At the time, Charton had jokingly responded that she would consider another baby if he took home the award.

However, as Culkin revealed during his Oscars speech, Charton later admitted that she had made the promise under the assumption that he wouldn’t actually win. After his Emmy victory, she had reluctantly acknowledged her words, saying, “I guess I owe you a third kid.” But Culkin wasn’t ready to stop there—he then proposed the idea of four children, to which Charton countered, “I will give you four when you win an Oscar.”

As he stood on stage with his newly earned Academy Award, Culkin seized the moment. “I held my hand out, she shook it, and I have not brought it up once until just now,” he told the audience. A Censored Shoutout to Jeremy Strong

Culkin’s speech wasn’t just about family planning—it also included an explicit yet enthusiastic nod to his former Succession co-star, Jeremy Strong, who was also nominated in the same category for his role in The Apprentice. As Culkin praised Strong’s performance, his choice of words led to a brief censorship moment, as he declared, “Jeremy, you’re amazing in The Apprentice. I love your work, it’s f–king great,” prompting the Oscars broadcast to bleep the remark.

A History of Public Declarations

This wasn’t the first time Culkin had used an awards ceremony to make a public plea to his wife about growing their family. During his Emmy acceptance speech in January 2024, he had similarly expressed gratitude to Charton before cheekily pressing the idea of another baby.

“Thank you for sharing your life with me and giving me two amazing kids, Kinsey Sioux and Wilder Wolf. I love you so many and so much. And Jazz, I want more,” he said at the time, reminding her of the “maybe” she had given him as an answer.
