Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have been one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples for nearly three decades,
but according to Ripa, their lasting romance wouldn’t have been possible without one key person.
During a recent episode of Live With Kelly & Mark, the 54-year-old television host opened up about the person responsible for bringing her
and Consuelos together—someone who also played a pivotal role in both of their acting careers.
The Woman Who Changed Everything for Ripa and Consuelos
Ripa and Consuelos first crossed paths in the mid-1990s while starring on the hit soap opera All My Children.
Their on-screen chemistry as Hayley Vaughan and Mateo Santos quickly translated into real-life romance, leading to their marriage in 1996. However, if it weren’t for casting director Judy Blye Wilson, their love story might never have happened.
During the Wednesday, January 15 episode of Live With Kelly & Mark, Ripa shared details about a special All My Children reunion that took place the day before in New York City. The event, which marked the soap opera’s 55th anniversary, was hosted by legendary actress Susan Lucci and brought together many familiar faces from the show’s history.
While reflecting on the reunion, Ripa took a moment to acknowledge Wilson’s significant impact on her life, telling the live audience, “She is the reason that Mark Consuelos and I are married.”
Consuelos, 53, immediately agreed, emphasizing the important role Wilson played in his career.
Judy Blye Wilson’s Role in Their Love Story
Ripa went on to explain that Wilson, All My Children’s longtime casting director, was responsible for discovering Consuelos and introducing him to the show. She recalled the exact moment she first saw his headshot, describing how Wilson excitedly presented the young actor’s photo to her before he had even auditioned for the role of Mateo Santos.
“I know where I was—I know where I was standing,” Ripa reminisced. “I was in her office, and she’s like, ‘I found him. I think I found Mateo. He’s never done anything. He’s green. He’s fresh out of college. I just found him, this guy.’ And she showed me your headshot, and I was like, ‘That’s the guy.’”
It turns out Ripa’s instincts were right. Not only did Consuelos land the part, but he also quickly won over Ripa’s heart.
Consuelos acknowledged Wilson’s unwavering support throughout his audition process, saying, “Not only did she find me, and they sent me up for an audition, but once I got there, she really, really fought for me. If it wasn’t for her, like you said, I wouldn’t be here.”
A Lasting Love Story
Shortly after meeting on the All My Children set, Ripa and Consuelos began dating, and their whirlwind romance led to a spontaneous wedding in Las Vegas in 1996. Now, almost 30 years later, they remain happily married and have built a beautiful life together. The couple shares three children—Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 21—who have all grown up witnessing their parents’ strong bond.
Even after decades together, Ripa and Consuelos continue to showcase their deep connection both on and off the screen. Since April 2023, the two have been co-hosting Live With Kelly & Mark, bringing their signature humor, charm, and undeniable chemistry to morning television every day.
Reflecting on Their Journey
Ripa and Consuelos’ love story is a testament to fate, talent, and the importance of having the right people in your corner. Without Wilson’s keen eye for talent, their paths may never have crossed, and their lives could have taken entirely different directions.
Fans of the couple have long admired their playful banter and affectionate interactions, both on Live and through their social media posts. Their story continues to inspire many, proving that sometimes, the most unexpected moments—like a casting decision—can change a person’s life forever.
As Ripa so perfectly put it, “Not only was she the casting director of All My Children, but she, unbeknownst to her, found me a husband in the process.”
For longtime fans, it’s a reminder that some love stories are simply meant to be.
