LeBron James fueled rumors he doesn’t want to play with his son Bronny after making a “strange” comment about his son’s presence.

Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has made headlines for his rising career in basketball,

but his journey has been unique. Unlike many athletes trying to prove themselves on the court, Bronny doesn’t have to worry about money or fame.

As LeBron recently shared on the *New Heights* podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, Bronny’s future is already secure due to his family’s wealth and influence.

“Bronny doesn’t have to play basketball at all,” LeBron explained.

“It’s not like he needs the money. He can do whatever he wants to do.”

LeBron also emphasized how supportive he is of his son’s decision to pursue basketball, saying that Bronny has the option to follow in his footsteps and even take over LeBron’s business empire if he desires.

“If he wants to be the CEO of my company, he could be that,” LeBron said. “But he’s like, ‘This is my career… my goals and… aspirations, and I want to play ball. This is something I love.’”

The conversation continued with LeBron expressing his pride in Bronny, not just as a player, but as a person. “I love that kid. He’s awesome,” LeBron added, emphasizing the strong bond they share.

While Bronny certainly doesn’t need to prove himself financially, he is determined to carve out his own path in basketball. LeBron shared his own joy in playing alongside Bronny on the court, calling it one of his greatest accomplishments, even surpassing his four NBA championships. “To be able to be in this league and play in this league and also be able to do it alongside Bronny right now, that’s like one of the biggest accomplishments and probably the No. 1 accomplishment,” LeBron said.

This experience is even more meaningful for LeBron, who, despite his successful career, hasn’t always had the opportunity to spend quality time with Bronny due to the demands of his own career. “To see him every day grinding and going through the process of trying to become who he wants to become… it helps me get some of the minutes and hours and years that I did not have with him because I was playing so much and on the road doing my own thing,” LeBron reflected. The ability to share this time with his son is something LeBron values deeply, making it a special chapter in their lives.

For Bronny, his high school career at Sierra Canyon was closely followed by the media, not just because of his own talent but because of his famous father. Still, he earned recognition in his own right, becoming a consensus four-star recruit and a McDonald’s All-American. After committing to play for USC, his future seemed bright, but things took an unexpected turn in 2023 when he suffered a cardiac arrest during a summer workout. Fortunately, he made a full recovery and returned to play for USC that December. In his first season with the Trojans, Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Lakers selected Bronny with the 55th pick, making him the first son of an active NBA player to join the same league. This moment was historic, as Bronny and LeBron became the first father-son duo to play on the same NBA floor. While Bronny’s time on the court with the Lakers has been limited, averaging just 2.4 minutes per game, he has spent significant time with the South Bay Lakers, the Lakers’ G League affiliate, where he has averaged 14.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 27.9 minutes over nine games.

Despite the intense scrutiny that comes with being the son of one of the most famous athletes in the world, Bronny has handled the pressure with remarkable poise. Travis Kelce, who interviewed LeBron on the podcast, praised Bronny for his maturity and calm demeanor in the face of such intense public attention. LeBron echoed this sentiment, stating, “I didn’t have to deal with the social media trolls growing up. And I didn’t have to deal with my father being this f— guy on the pedestal.” For Bronny, dealing with such challenges only strengthens his resolve, and LeBron believes it will ultimately make him an even greater person and player.

As Bronny continues his journey in the NBA, it’s clear that his path will be shaped not just by his famous last name, but by his own drive and ambition. With LeBron by his side, Bronny has the support and guidance to navigate the pressures of the spotlight while pursuing his love for basketball. Whether or not Bronny achieves the same legendary status as his father remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: he’s on a path to greatness of his own making.
