Mark Consuelos was not having any of Kelly Ripa’s playful hypothetical scenarios during a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark. While discussing Galentine’s Day,
a holiday that celebrates female friendships on February 13, the conversation took a humorous but unexpected turn when Ripa introduced a scenario about a cheating spouse.
However, Consuelos quickly shut it down, making it clear that even in jest, he wasn’t willing to entertain the idea of infidelity.
Galentine’s Day Takes an Unexpected Turn
The discussion initially revolved around Galentine’s Day, but executive producer Michael Gelman chimed in with a surprising revelation—
February 13 is also sometimes referred to as Scoundrel’s Night. He explained that, according to what he read,
the night before Valentine’s Day has been traditionally used by unfaithful partners to take their mistresses out before spending the next evening with their spouses.
Ripa found the idea amusing and jokingly questioned how Gelman knew about it. He clarified that he simply read about it in a newspaper. Gelman then shared that he and his wife, Laurie, take advantage of the night by going out to dinner when restaurants are less crowded.
“Laurie likes to feel dirty. It’s exciting,” Ripa teased, continuing the lighthearted conversation.
Gelman played along, quipping, “Yeah, she’s my girlfriend.”
Kelly Ripa Tries to Rope Mark Consuelos into a Hypothetical Scenario
The discussion then shifted back to Galentine’s Day, with Ripa taking a moment to express gratitude for the amazing women in her life, both personally and professionally. Consuelos echoed her sentiment, agreeing that it was a great tradition.
However, Ripa couldn’t resist taking the conversation in a different direction, teasing her husband about how Galentine’s Day would give him the perfect opportunity to see an imaginary mistress.
“And that way, you can go out with your mistress while I’m out with the girls. See how we, like, kill two birds with one stone,” she joked.
At first, Consuelos played along, replying, “You’re busy. I’m busy. Everyone’s busy.” But when Ripa pushed him into a more detailed hypothetical situation, things took a turn.
Consuelos Shuts Down the “What Would You Do” Game
Ripa then presented Consuelos with a scenario:
“I know we have to get to the show, but what would you do? What would you do if I’m out for Galentine’s Day night, right? And I’m with my girls… You think I’m going to restaurant X, but we pivoted at the last minute. We’re like, you know what? Let’s go to wherever, different restaurant. And you are out with your mistress. Oh, my gosh. What would you do?”
Consuelos, however, wasn’t willing to entertain the fantasy. Instead of playing along, he quickly dismissed it.
“I would never be that stupid,” he said firmly.
Ripa, still wanting to keep the fun going, teased, “You would have to fly to a different country.”
Consuelos, sticking to his stance, responded that anyone who gets caught in such a situation is “looking to get caught.”
Ripa agreed, adding, “They want to end the relationship or they’re just too cowardly to end the relationship.”
Ripa Playfully Calls Her Husband “No Fun”
Although the conversation was meant to be lighthearted, Ripa found herself disappointed by Consuelos’ refusal to play along with her game.
“You’re not even any fun to play this game with,” she jokingly complained.
Gelman, trying to keep things light, quipped that the scenario would make for “a good Hallmark movie.” But Ripa wasn’t done teasing her husband yet.
“I can’t do anything fun with him,” she continued. “Like, any scenario I give to him, he’s like, ‘Well, first of all—’”
She went on to explain that whenever she presents Consuelos with a what-if scenario, he always responds rationally instead of indulging in the imagination of the game.
“He never engages in the fun of the ‘What would you do if I walked in, and you were there with your mistress?’ Like, would you separate us? What if I went after you? What if she went after you? And he’s like, ‘I would never do that. That’s so ridiculous.’ And I’m like, ‘No, but let’s have the fun game,’” she laughed.
Consuelos compared the game to three-card Monty, saying, “The only person that loses is me.”
“That’s not a game I wanna play. It’s not fun,” he concluded.
A Playful Exchange Reflecting Their Strong Relationship
While the conversation may have seemed serious on the surface, fans of Live with Kelly and Mark know that Ripa and Consuelos share a fun, playful dynamic in their marriage. The couple, who have been married for nearly three decades, often joke about their relationship on-air, providing viewers with humorous and relatable moments.
Despite Ripa’s efforts to pull her husband into her make-believe scenario, Consuelos’ response was a testament to his commitment and devotion. His refusal to even entertain the idea of an imaginary mistress shows that, even in jest, he is unwilling to put himself in that position.
Their banter is just another example of why their real-life love story continues to be adored by fans. Whether they’re playfully debating scenarios or celebrating their long-lasting marriage, Ripa and Consuelos always keep things entertaining.
