Mark Consuelos wasn’t having any part of Kelly Ripa’s playful “what if” game on Live with Kelly and Mark during their latest episode.
While discussing Galentine’s Day—the February 13 celebration dedicated to female friendships—Ripa took a humorous turn
by introducing a hypothetical cheating scenario involving her husband.
However, Consuelos quickly shut it down, proving he had no interest in even pretending to entertain such a situation.
The Origins of “Scoundrel’s Night”
The conversation began when Live executive producer Michael Gelman mentioned that February 13 is also known as “Scoundrel’s Night.”
According to Gelman, the term refers to a shady tradition where unfaithful partners would take their mistresses out the night before Valentine’s Day, reserving the actual holiday for their spouses.
Ripa, always quick with a joke, asked Gelman how he knew about this so-called tradition. Gelman laughed it off, saying he had only read about it in the newspaper. He then revealed that he and his wife, Laurie, have their own tradition of going out on February 13—not because of the “scoundrel” connection, but simply to avoid the crowds on Valentine’s Day.
Ripa playfully teased, “Laurie likes to feel dirty. It’s exciting,” prompting Gelman to joke, “Yeah, she’s my girlfriend.”
Kelly Ripa’s Playful Hypothetical—And Mark’s Firm Response
As the conversation continued, Ripa took a moment to acknowledge the strong women in her life, saying, “We’re very lucky. We’re very fortunate.” Consuelos agreed, adding, “I think it’s a good celebration.”
Then, Ripa saw an opportunity for some playful mischief. “And that way you can go out with your mistress while I’m out with the girls. See how we, like, kill two birds with one stone?” she joked.
At first, Consuelos played along, quipping, “You’re busy. I’m busy. Everyone’s busy.” But Ripa decided to push the joke even further, presenting her husband with a hypothetical situation.
“What would you do if I’m out for Galentine’s Day with my girls, and you think I’m going to restaurant X, but at the last minute, we decide to go somewhere else? And you are out with your mistress. Oh my gosh. What would you do?”
Without hesitation, Consuelos dismissed the premise altogether, responding, “I would never be that stupid.”
Ripa, undeterred, teased, “You would have to fly to a different country.”
Mark Consuelos Keeps It Real
Consuelos refused to engage in the fantasy, doubling down on the impracticality of the scenario. “If someone does that—” he started, before Ripa interrupted, saying, “They’re looking to get caught.”
Agreeing with her logic, Consuelos added, “They want to end the relationship, or they’re just too cowardly to end the relationship.”
Still, his logical approach wasn’t satisfying enough for Ripa, who pouted, “You’re not even any fun to play this game with.”
As Gelman chimed in, joking that the scenario would make a great Hallmark movie, Ripa continued to tease Consuelos, insisting, “He never engages in the fun of the ‘What would you do if I walked in, and you were there with your mistress?’”
She then painted an even more dramatic picture: “Would you separate us? What if I went after you? What if she went after you?”
Consuelos, however, refused to take the bait, sticking to his no-nonsense stance: “I would never do that. That’s so ridiculous.”
His unwillingness to play along left Ripa exasperated. “I can’t do anything fun with him,” she joked. “Like, any scenario I give to him, he’s like, ‘Well, first of all…’”
Consuelos compared the hypothetical game to “three-card Monty,” saying, “The only person that loses is me.”
“That’s not a game I wanna play. It’s not fun,” he concluded, effectively shutting down the scenario.
Keeping It Playful on Live
While Ripa clearly wanted to have some fun with the situation, Consuelos’ serious approach highlighted his commitment to their relationship—even in a purely hypothetical sense. Fans of Live with Kelly and Mark have come to appreciate the couple’s on-screen chemistry, which often includes playful banter like this.
Though this particular “game” may not have gone the way Ripa wanted, their back-and-forth remains a fan-favorite aspect of the show.
