Savannah Guthrie from TODAY suggested that there is a conflict with the network’s executives: “I’m completely barred from entering that location.” What’s the story behind this?

The “Today” show had a different look on Tuesday as co-anchor Savannah Guthrie temporarily left Studio 1A in New York to report from Washington, D.C.,

ahead of President Donald Trump’s first joint congressional address.

Back in New York, Craig Melvin took on the solo hosting duties, kicking off the broadcast with an introduction.

“Welcome to ‘Today,’ thanks so much for joining us on this Tuesday morning. I’m here in New York, but Savannah Guthrie has made her way to Washington,” he told viewers.

Savannah, speaking live from the nation’s capital, provided an update on the day’s major political events. “Hello, it’s a busy day here already.

Here’s a live look at the U.S. Capitol,” she said, as the camera shifted to a live shot of the historic building.

She continued, “Later tonight, President Trump will deliver the first address to Congress of his new term, and it comes amid a flurry of breaking stories out of Washington this morning.”

As the show progressed, Craig was later joined by weatherman Al Roker, Carson Daly, and legal correspondent Laura Jarrett to round out the morning’s coverage.

Savannah and NBC’s managing editor, Lester Holt, are set to lead the network’s special coverage of the presidential address at 9 p.m. Lester, a seasoned journalist known for covering high-profile political events, has frequently co-anchored with Savannah during major moments in American politics.

Lester recently announced his decision to step down from his role as the anchor of “NBC Nightly News.” Having served in that position since 2015 following the departure of Brian Williams, Lester revealed in February that he would now focus on “Dateline.” NBC has yet to name his successor for the “Nightly News” anchor seat.

Celebrating Lester’s decade-long tenure in the role, Savannah took to social media to express her admiration and gratitude. “Congrats to @lesterholtnbc on an amazing decade and the new chapter about to unfold! I’m grateful for getting to share so many historic moments right by your side – always, always the class act,” she wrote.

Savannah has been a familiar face on “Today” since 2012. Initially, she co-anchored the program with Matt Lauer until his departure in 2018. Following his exit, Hoda Kotb stepped in to share hosting duties.

However, earlier this year, Hoda announced her departure from “Today” after a remarkable 17-year run. When sharing her decision, Hoda explained, “I decided that this is the right time for me to kind of move on. And then I thought about—obviously, I had my kiddos late in life. And I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have. I feel like we only have a finite amount of time.”

Her departure created a major shift in the “Today” lineup, leading to Craig Melvin stepping into the co-anchor role. Craig, who has been part of NBC News for nearly 14 years, officially assumed his new position on January 13.

As the “Today” team continues to evolve, viewers can expect Savannah and Craig to lead the show’s dynamic coverage, bringing audiences the latest headlines, political updates, and in-depth features.

With Savannah reporting from Washington and Craig holding down the fort in New York, “Today” remains committed to delivering top-tier journalism and keeping viewers informed about the most significant moments shaping the world.
