Tom Hanks shocked many by declaring he’d join TODAY—if Savannah Guthrie GETS FIRED. What’s behind this statement?

The Today Show viewers are buzzing with excitement as they campaign for Hollywood legend Tom Hanks to become a regular on the morning program.

The two-time Academy Award-winning actor recently sat down with host Savannah Guthrie to discuss his latest project, The Americas, a documentary series he narrates.

However, it wasn’t just the insightful conversation about the series that caught fans’ attention—it was the possibility of Hanks joining the show as a guest co-anchor.

During their lighthearted exchange, Guthrie playfully extended an invitation to the Forrest Gump star, asking, “Are you going to come co-anchor with me ever?”

Initially, Hanks seemed hesitant, responding with humor, “Wouldn’t that be great?” before quickly adding, “I’m not getting up that early, lady.”

Undeterred, Guthrie tried to convince him, urging, “Come on.” But Hanks, 68, remained firm, joking, “And I am not reading all that research.”

As the conversation continued, Guthrie proposed an alternative, suggesting, “One day, we’ll do it as a gag. You’ll have something you want to protest.”

At first, Hanks seemed unwilling to entertain the idea. However, he suddenly changed his stance, declaring, “No, I’m sorry, it would have to be for the full week.” A surprised Guthrie asked, “For the whole week?” to which Hanks confirmed, “For the whole week.”

Guthrie was quick to accept the challenge, saying, “Okay, done. Twist my arm.” However, Hanks offered a friendly warning about his potential temperament, stating, “By the way, I will be cranky on Friday morning.” Unfazed, Guthrie reassured him, “That’s fine.” Hanks then added with a chuckle, “I will say when I’m cranky, I’m pretty damn hilarious, I must say.”

The playful conversation left both Guthrie and her fellow co-hosts amused as they discussed Hanks’ apparent change of heart. “He went from, ‘I’ll never do that,’ to ‘Well, I want the whole week,’” she remarked with a laugh.

The entertaining segment was later posted on the official Today Show Instagram account, where the caption read, “Tom Hanks, our couch is always open for you. Come co-anchor with @savannahguthrie and @craigmelvinnbc whenever you want!”

Fans were thrilled by the prospect of Hanks joining the Today Show team, flooding the comments section with enthusiasm. “Please!!!!” one excited viewer wrote. Another fan added, “Please let Tom Hanks be on Today Show.” A third commented, “Would love to see him co-host.” One person even offered an incentive, joking, “Tom, we’ll buy you your first egg sandwich (which now will be more than a steak dinner) along with a large coffee to keep those eyes open.”

Hanks’ warm and approachable personality has long made him one of Hollywood’s most beloved figures, and his natural charisma would undoubtedly be a welcome addition to the Today Show. While he hasn’t officially committed to co-hosting, his offhand remark about taking on a full week of hosting duties has left fans hopeful.

Though Hanks may be hesitant about early mornings and research prep, his undeniable charm, humor, and storytelling abilities make him a perfect fit for the show’s dynamic format. Whether as a one-time guest host or a recurring co-anchor, viewers would certainly relish the opportunity to see him bring his unique energy to their morning routines.

For now, fans will have to wait and see if Hanks follows through on his half-joking offer. Until then, the Today Show couch remains open for him, and audiences can only dream of what a week with Tom Hanks as co-host might look like.
