Savannah Guthrie’s latest literary project, Mostly What God Does Is Love You, has a special set of fans—her own children, Vale, 10, and Charley, 8.
The Today show anchor’s newest book, which is set to be released on February 25, is a children’s adaptation of her 2024 bestseller,
Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere.
The book aims to introduce children to the concepts of God’s love and grace in a way that is accessible and relatable.
For Guthrie, faith has always played a central role in her life, and now, she’s sharing that belief with young readers—including her own kids.
Vale Takes Over as Interviewer
In a heartwarming moment on Today, Guthrie’s daughter, Vale, had the opportunity to turn the tables and interview her mom about the book. The conversation offered a glimpse into Guthrie’s personal faith journey and how she hopes to instill the same values in her children.
“I do remember talking to God when I was your age,” Guthrie told Vale. “I remember saying my prayers. I remember asking to not get a bad grade on a test or asking for a certain present for Christmas.”
However, she went on to explain that her relationship with God extended beyond small requests—it was a source of comfort during difficult moments.
“I also remember talking to God about my fears and my worries, and I guess that’s why it’s so important for me to tell you and Charley about him,” she continued. “Because I’m hoping you’re having a conversation, too.”
Why Faith Matters in the Guthrie Household
As the interview continued, Vale asked her mother why it was so important for her to teach her children about God. Guthrie’s response was deeply personal, reflecting on how her faith has been a guiding force in her life.
“God has always been a really big part of my life,” she explained. “He has helped me through times when I felt alone. I could always call on God.”
For Guthrie, sharing her faith with her children is not just about teaching them beliefs—it’s about giving them the same sense of comfort and support that she has relied on throughout her life.
“If I can tell you about the God that I know, the one that loves you so much, then you’ll carry Him in your heart just the way I have all my life. And that will always be with you,” she told Vale.
A Special Family Moment on Air
The segment also included heartwarming clips of Vale and Charley engaging with their mother’s book. In one scene, Charley could be seen waving to his mom on the monitor, while another showed him helping his sister adjust her microphone before the interview. The interactions highlighted not just the love and support within their family, but also how much Guthrie’s children appreciate and connect with the message of her book.
For Guthrie, Mostly What God Does Is Love You is more than just another project—it’s a reflection of her own spiritual journey and a gift to the next generation. With Vale and Charley already embracing its message, it’s clear that the book has found its most meaningful audience right at home.
